On 2 May, 2015 the Jabarkhet Nature Reserve was inaugurated by Uttarakhand’sHonourable Forest Minister, Shri Dinesh Agarwal. Located to the east of Mussoorie on a ridge called Flag Hill, the nature reserve covers more than 100 acres and is connected to adjacent government forests.
This is the first private nature reserve in North India and is owned by Vipul Jain and ArchanaGarg. They have dedicated this sanctuary to the memory of their father, Shri J.P. Jain, who was a conservationist ahead of his time. SejalWorah is director of JNR and has worked tirelessly over the past two years to establish the reserve by creating waterholes, installing camera traps, repairing paths, removing trash and controlling invasive species. With minimal infrastructure, an extensive network of trails, interpretive materials and staff employed from nearby villages and settlements, JNR showcases the natural beauty of the Himalaya and provides a model for sustainable eco-development.
Individuals and Institutions can become members of JNR, which allows them access to the reserve and helps support its programmes. For More Information and Membership go to www.jabarkhetnature.com
